MOST POPULAR DOG
SMOOTH-HAIRED FOX-TERRIERS

Two thousand six hundred and seventy-one dogs slept, yapped, growled and wagged their tails on two miles of benches at the Crystal Palace yesterday when the Kennnl Club exhibition opened. The show, which ends today, is the largest ever held by the club.
Women formed the greater part of crowd.
Mr Theatore Offerman, the judge of the wire-haired fox-terriers, came specially from the United States. These fox-terriers have lost their pride of p.ace to the smooth-haired breed. For years the wire-haired fox-terriers led the entry list for the Kennel Clubs shows, but there are only 15 this time compared with 241 smooth-haired. An expert said: The popularity of the smooth-hair-ed, perhaps at the expense of the wirehaired variety, is on the increase. They are wonderful dogs and they need very little care. People pay from 1 £3O to £SO for good ones.
Toy dogs were installed on cushions and rugs. Their benches, decorated with gay chintz curtains and coloured hangings, looked like womens dressing tables, with scent sprays, hair lotions, tins of talcum powder, and brushes and combs.
