' (Bv Telegraph—-PresflAssociation). DUNEDIN, Oct. 4. The payment or wages of apprentices during the time they are in military, camps was discussed at, the Arbitration Court to-day, when Mr Cpokson,. on behalf of employers asked for'an unqualified right to deduct wages. Mr Cookson stated that those employers who responded to the Government’s appeal to take the full quota of apprences suffered the most hardship. Whatever benefit might accrue from military training was a State benefit and the full cost should be State born. The Defence Department paid trainees 4s per day and the employer was compelled to pay the full wage additional. The iustiee of the claim shown in the fact that Government Departments deducted from employees’ salaries the pay received by them from the Defence Department. /
Judge Fraser said the Court would with-hold a decision until similar cases were heard elsewhere.
