HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT. WELLINGTON, Sept. 30. The Department of Agriculture has received the ' following cablegram, dated 28th inst., from the High Com missioner for New Zealand, London: TALLOW. The spot market is quiet but steady. There is a fair demand ar auction, with lower grades a little weaker. Present quotations are per cwt.; Mutton, fine 41s to 41s Gd, fair to good 38s \ to 40s 6d, dark to, dull 36s to 375; beef, sweet and/or mixed 39s Gd to 435, fair to good 36s 9d to 3(9s 6d, dark ! dull 35s Gd to 36s Gd; mixed, fair - to good 36s 9d to 3.9 s 6d, dark to duil 35s 6d to 36s 6d; gut, etc., 34s to 3d. ! APPLES. There are large quantities of English in the market; the majority of poor quality and sealing .cheaply. Increasing arrivals of’. American are meeting with .a fair ’ demand. Prices are: American, Gravonstein 12s to 13s per case; British Colombia, Oox’s Grange, 20s to 27s per. case; Nova Scotia, Cox’s Orange, 20s to 27s 6d per case; Gravenslein, 16s to 22s per barrel. Tanganyika No. 1 is quoted ('sellers’), .Soptember-Novem.ber shipments, fair average quality £39, good marks £4O ss. No. 2 meets with a little hotter enquiry on account of its relative cheapness compared with Mexican. Closing values for good marks are £3B 10s, fair average quality £37 10s. Mexican is unchanged at good white £4O 2s Gd, special brush £43 12s 6d. | The New Zealand market continues dull, and buyers are holding hack for a nearer parity with Manila. Early this week there were buyers of highpoints at £34 10s, but shippers held for £35. Buyers have since retired, and the best bid is now £34. Other nominal comparative closing values are unchanged for. Septcmber-Novem-ber or October-Dccember shipments. WOOL. The sales continue with prices in favour of buyers.
