DEATH OF FORMER JOCKEY.
AUCKLAND, September 28. The deatli occurred, unexpectedly, yesterday of John James Redmond, aged sixty-nine years, of Waikaraka. Mr Redmond was born at Glasgow, Victoria, and came to New Zealand when a boy. With his parents, he settled in Hastings. Later, he became a jockey, and was known throughout New Zealand. His name will be remembered by many of the older followers of racing as a winner of the Grand National Steeplechase in 1899. Mr Redmond went to live in the Wliangarei district six years ago. He is survived by a widow and one son.
