GIRL SHOT DEAD

The cold-blooded murder 'of a pretty girl, and the suicide of her lover occurred last night, at (Rose Bay. Dorothy Cooper, aged 19 years, a resident of Mosinan, and a girl friend, hired a taxi in the city and drove, to a residence in Rose Bay, where a party was being Held. Miss Cooper’s lover, whose name is believed - to have been Charles Houston, aged 25 years, followed the pair in another taxi, and eventually knocking at the i door and enquiring for Miss Cooper, ho was invited to come inside. Houston then whipped out two revolvers, and he exclaimed to Miss Cooper and her friend: “You have got just one minute to live!” The girls shrieked. A series of revolver shots were heard by the other inmates and Miss Cooper fell dead. Her companion simultaneously dropped to the floor in a faint, but she was unharmed, all of the shots fired missing her. The police were- hurriedly brought from an adjoining election meeting and they pluckily rushed into .the room where the shooting, oepurred. They were met with a fusilade of bullets, one passing through Constable Fox’s jaw, and another through his overcoat.

Constable Fox’s companion escaped injury.

Houston then turned a revolver upon himself, and he died without uttering a word. According to the taxli driver who took Houston to Rose Bay,. Houston seemed to be annoyed because bis sweetheart went to the party with another young man but Houston displayed no intention of killing anybody.
