N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIPS. (By Telegraph—Press Association). AVANGANUI, September 27. A strong southerly wind and a driving rain for the opening of the New Zealand golf championships to-day, imposed severe tests on the players. In the afternoon tlie rain ceased, but the wind increased, and it ■ was bitterly cold. Shaw’s performance to-day (two rounds in 151) stamped him as a player, capable of taking his place in any conU pany. He was only one over the standard scratch score.
