CUBIS TRAGEDY

INQUEST VERDICT. .United Press Association. —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) ' AUCKLAND, Sept. 26. A verdict that death was due to strangulation by ithe mother, who at tho time was insane, was returned by Mr Hunt, Coroner, at the conclusion of the inquest on William Arran and Timothy Brian Cubis, twins aged four years. The father, William Alfred Cubis, aged 40, said his wife was aged 40, and there were three children, all hoys, the eldest being eight years old. About 12 months ago his wife’s health broke down, and at the end ol last February she entered AVolfe Home on a doctor’s advice. She returned home on June 30th. There were at times days when she appeared to be unwell but there was nothing to suggest that her mental condition was such that she would resort to violence and injure the children. Airs Eileen Paice, residing in the house adjoining the Cubis home, said that about 11.30 on the morning, of •August 6th, she heard Airs Cubis ending. Witness with another neighbour went with Airs Cubis into the house, where they found the children in bed with a silk stocking drawn round the neck of each. Detective-Sergeant Kelly said tnat whence arrived Mrs Cubis was in a hysterical condition, and appeared to be demented. f
