LAMBETH CONFERENCE

THE N.Z. REPRESENTATIVES

WELLINGTON, August 23.

Invitationsi to -attend the Lambeth Conference in London in July next have been accepted by the Archbishop of New Zealand (Dr A. AV. Averill), the Bishop of Christchurch (Dr Campbell West- Watson), the Bishop of Dunedin (Dr I. Richards), the Bishop of Nelson (Dr. W. C. Sadler), and the Bishop of Waikato (Rt. Rev. C. A. Cherrington). A fund was recently opened to send the Bishop. of Aotearoa (Rt. Rev. F. A. Bennet) Home to the Conference, and the Bishop of Waiapu (Dr. W. AV. Sedgwick) to whom Bishop Bennett has signified his approval. Even if the necesary finance were available, however, it now seems unlikely that Bishop Bennett will make the trip, as he has. stated that he will find it very difficult to spare the time away .from New Zealand that such a visit would entail. A Lambeth Conference takes place once overy ten years, the last one having been in 1920, when New Zealand was represented by ihe present Arch- late Archbishop of New Zealand (Dr Julius, of Christchurch) and Dr AV. AV. Sedgwick. j.'iext year’s conference will be the first under the presidency of the new Archbishop of Canterbury (Dr Cosmo Lai?g). Invitations to attend the conference have been issued to all the Bishops of the Anglican Communion, and to tne Bishops of the Episcopal church of America.
