MISSIONARY CONFERENCE

6 ANNUAL MEETING

WELLINGTON, August 23.

The annual meeting of the New Zealand National Missionary Council, which represents tlie leading Protestant missionary societies and '.commit-, tees of the Dominion, was held in Wellington recently. The Bishop of Nelson (Dr Sadlier) presided over a representative meeting. The Hon. Secretary (Dev. David Calder) presented nifj report, which showed that during the year Churches were taking a wider interest in the work being done by missionary societies other ,than, their own by an interchange of speakers.

It was decided that in view of the .desirability of holding a national missionary conference in 1931, the Executive should explore the ground that will need to be covered, and call the Council together to complete the arrangements for such a conference to further prayer for missionary work. It was .decided to recommend to all ministers and congregations that r a' day at St. Andrew’s tide, suitable to local conditions, be set aside for the purpose. ' \

The election of officers resulted as follows: President, the Bishop of Nelson; Vice-Presidents, the Revs. F. E. Harry, W. M. P. Lascelles, W. Mawson, E. D. 1 Patchett, F. B. Redgrave: Hon. Secretary, the Rev, D. Calder; Hon. Treasurer, the Rev. F. C. Long; Executive, the Revs. W. M. P. Has celles, E. D. Patchett, F.' H. Wilkin‘ion, Mrs Inglis, Mr J. W. Black, the Secretary, and the Treasurer.

The following were appointed publicity members for their respective centres : Auckland, the Rev, W. Mawson ; Wellington the Secretary; Christchurch, the Rev. F. B. Redgrave; Dunedin, the Rev. W. A, Hamblett.

BEQoFST TO RELIGIOUS ORGANISATIONS. AUCKLAND 1 , August 23. Several public bequests are tnade in the will of Miss Mary Catherine Graham, who died at Auckland on July 9. The sum of £2OO has been left to the Salvation Army, £IOO to the Leslie Presbyterian Orphanage, £IOO to Dr. Rnrnado’s Homes, and £loo to the Home Mission Trust, Fund of the Methodist Church. The estate has been sworn for probate at £?onn. Should this not ho sufficient for all the bequests, thev will he abated nro rata, out if on the other hand, thorn n residue, it will go to the Methodist Home Missionary Fund.
