HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

FRIDAY, JULY 26th. The Council met at 7.40 p.m. Present: Messrs T. W. Duff (chair), E. W. Heenan, A. R. Elcock, J. King and A. C. Armstrong. Apologies were made for the absence of the Mayor, Messrs Heinz, Evans, Turner, and Dr Teichelinann. The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. IN W ARI) CORH ESPONDENCE. From the Municipal Association of N.Z., forwarding report of proceedings of the Twenty-first Conference of Je’egates Held in the Council Chambers. Wanganui, on March 6th and 7cli, 1929.—Received. From Wm. Iv. Corrigan, Christchurch, offering enlarged photograph (23 x 17) of a statue bust of the late - nomas Bracken, N.Z. poet, for £5 55.--Received. From Joseph Hatherley, Christchurch, asking whether any plaster work required to be done at the Public Library. From Walsh and Lincoln, relinquishing excavation contracts No. 1,2, 3,4, at Lake Kanieri, unless Council can guarantee wages at los a day each.— Received; action taken approved. From Harris and Hutchison, Kanieri, offering to perform excavation contracts, Lake Kanieri, No. 1,2, and 3, •for £144 15s. —Received. From Wells Bros., Kanieri, offering to perform excavation contracts at bake Kanieri, Nos. 1,2, 3, and 4, for “200. —Received; action in accepting iffer approved. 'Hie Secretary, Westland branch, Automobile Association, expressing thanks to Council for its efforts .in endeavouring to "find a suitable camping site for touring motorists, and intimating that the Westland Racing Club bad been approached on the subject.— Received and approved. From N.Z. Refrigerating Coy., Christchurch, advising that 64 sheep, 3 lambs, and 1 cattle, had been delivered into Hokitika during the month of June, 1929. —Received.

From Medical Officer of Health, Christchurch, forwarding Gazette notice No. 29 of the 4th July, 1929, wiving results of examination under the Plumbers’ Registration.—Received. From the relatives of the late All* A. H. Keller, thanking Council for expression of sympathy.—Received. From L. Gooch accepting lease of section on Council’s terms.—Received. The Treasurer reported receipts (-235 0s 9d, payments £175 13s 7d, debit balance £il9 13s 5d. —Received. Accounts amounting to £716 8s 4d were passed for payment. f The Chairman of Public Works Committee submitted a report on cartage. —Received and consideration deferred. It was resolved to invite tenders for cartage of beach gravel.to he placed at clump and also for supply of screened pit gravel. The Council rose at 8.5 p.m.
