POPE AND THE VATICAN
COMING OUT NEXT MONTH. On June 24, St. John tlie Baptist’sDay, the Pope is to come out of the /aLienn for tlie first time in order t> go to tlie La tern n Church (says a {nine correspondent of a London pap •r). A great deal of interest natural] enlres round this event, which is sur - o be accompanied by much pomp and qdendour, though a motor journey rom the Vatican to St. John Lateran will hardly allow rif any sustained dis•dny or devotion. It seems certain that Llie Pope will travel in the motor coacli which is being built for him h.v ■i Alilan car firm, and pedestrians wiil fall upon their knees as lie passes. The Pope accompanied by Alonsignor Arborio Aielia, tlie Papal cup-bearer, nd followed in another motor car by Alonsignor Pizzardo, his nephew, Signor Francis Ratti, and his private secretary, Alonsignor Conflaonieri, visited idle electrical power station for the seeiiicl time a few weeks ago. He was received there by various officials oi tlie Vatican and h.V the personnel oi tlie power station. Tlie Pope took a great interest in tlie new motors which have just been installed and ordered doui more of 500 h.p. He afterwards visited the tapestry workshops and person ally cut one representing the Madonna by Pinturichhio. ’ A novel six-scator, six-cylinder limosine lias been completed at the 1-iat works at Turin for presentation to the pope. There is nothing unusual about the two front seats for the driver and assistant, hut the rear seats are arranged in quite an unorthodox manner, qwu of them are like ordinary easy chairs, and tlie other two arc so arranged that their occupants can sit without turning their backs oil tlie i ope.
