AN EXPLOSION. WESTPORT, May 26. About 11 p.m. on Saturday, a charge of gelignite was exploded in the storeroom of Rosenberg’s Hotel, Tiroroa, Boiler Gorge, doing damage to tile extent of about £5. It is strongly suspected that some men who were refused a drink earlier in the evening, had a hand in the matter. BODY FOUND. SEIZURE SUSPECTED. ASHBURTON, May 27. The body of John Gilbert, aged 24, who had been missing from Longbeach since Sunday, May 19 was found yesterday with the head in a creek containing about a foot o|f water at the back of tihe homestead. Apparently Gilbert had a seizure. WIFE OF M.P. DEAD. WELLINGTON, may 27. Obituary—Mrs Tekahui Grace, wife of L. Grace formerly M.P. for Tnuranga. She was daughter of Te Heuheu and sister of the Maori M.L.C. oif that name. She leaves three sons and live daughters. Her remains are to be taken to Waihi near to Kaanu her birth place and a great tangi will be -eld this week. WRESTLER’S DEATH. HAMILTON, May 26. A single man, Frederick Albert McKenzie, aged 33, died at the Maikato Hospital to-day from peritonitis, to.llowing a ruptured gastric ulcer. He. was thrown in a wrestling match with a Maori named Brownie Hemar*; on' ...ay 19, and suffered abdominal pains in consequence. MYSTERIOUS FIRE. UNOCCUPIED HOUSE DESTROYED TBIARU, May 25. The teachers’ residence at Clandeboye School was completely destroyed by fire this morning. The. house was unoccupied owing to the vacation. It is a coincidence that the school was also destroyed by fire some time ago. FELL FROM EXCURSION TR AIN. PALMERSTON N., May 27. .Valda Morgan, fourteen, daughter elf H. Morgan, of Tokamaru slipped off an excursion train from Wellington at Koputaroa, while it was in motion yesterday. She fell heavily and was hospitalled suffering from a fractured skull.
