N.S.W. LOCK-OUT. COAL EXCHANGES WITH N.Z. (Australian Press Association). SYDNEY, May 25. The steamer Kawatiri, winch left Westport yesterday with a load of coal ifor Adelaide, is later to load coal at kembla for a New Zealand port. dPhis interchange of coal is an indium of the disturbed state of the coal industry. New South Wales coal, consigned to Adelaide, has been purchased for gas making. The steamer Kaikorai is also loading coal at Kembla for New Zealand. NEWCASTLE, May 25. Threats that the safety men may he withdrawn from the closed coal mines in the northern fields have not alarmed the coal owners, who claim that emergency safety staffs could be improvised if the Union men came out. Anderson, of North Sydney, is planning a lone attempt m the establishment of a shipping line to trade between England and Austral n in open competition with the “Conference ” lines of ships. Two electrical fitters, William En<Reott and George Aylott, were killed instantly at Foo'tscray, when they were run down by the Bendigo express. The men stepped off one set of rails to avoid the down train but walked directly on to the oncoming train. . SPEED BOATS. AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIP. / SYDNEY, May 25. The outboard motor-boat championship of Australia and New Zealand, was run yesterday at Rose Bay, in a cold southerly wind and a choppy sea, which made;the conditions unfavourable. •: . The “Sea Horse” (Queensland) won the two heats and the championship. Its speed over the four miles course was 28* and 29 point six miles per hour. The “Cettfin the Fifth” (New South Wales) did 27* and 27 point six miles and was second. The New Zealand boat “Baby Bov” finished last of-the seven starters in tlie first heat. She did not start in the second heat, owing to a damaged fin.
