A correspondent informs the “Otago Times” that a demonstration was to he given at Alexandra of a goldwashing machine invented by Mr Tsnae Denison, of Ohai, Southland. The machine is worked by a petrol engine, and it is claimed for it that it will wash dirt as quickly as two men can shovel. It is small and compact and easily carried from place to place on a motor lorry. It takes very little water to wash the dirt; a small dam. 10 feet long bv one foot deep, is sufficient for a week. The water is sucked up by means of a pump, goes through the machine, and can he used over again.

In connection with the production locallv of the opera “Rip Van Winkle,” the first practice of the chorus will take place this evening at the Parish Hall.
