U.S. DEBT SETTLEMENT
“COULD GET NO BETTER TERMS” (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright)., LONDON, May 24. Mr Baldwin, through his private Secretary, denies the versions given by Mr Snowden of the American debt settlement. Mr Snowden said the American Government had in mind a settlement on a two and a-half per cent, basis, but found Air Baldwin in such a generous mood that when ho offered three and a-lm!f per cent, it naturally- had no objection. Mr Baldwin states that lie rejected tile American offer of three per cent, for ton years, and three and a-half thereater, but he was unable to get better terms when lie returned to London, after which Cabinet decided to accept the American offer. Mr Baldwin lias issued a personal appeal to the electors to vote Conservative “because T am convinced my party can alone provide that continuity of policy and stability which the country needs at present.”
