Ibe Commissioner of Crown Lands

In our report of the Borough Council proceedings on Friday night on the discussion arising from the proposed Hospital Board levy for the coining year. Councillor Jeffries is reported as stating the cost of meat last year was £2OO more. This was obviously an error as Ills remarks referred to the present year-estimates which were under discussion.

the well-known auctioneer and DeputyMayor, was waited on by a number of

influential citizens on Saturday evening with a request that lie allow himself to he nominated for the position of .Mayor for the coming term. Mr JefFries promised to give his answer to the request on Wednesday.

The location for the new brewery

has been fixed for Upper Gibson Quay on the seven sections opposite the late brewery in operation in that vicinity. The titles to the land have now been acquired and work on the foundation is to begin at once. The preliminary capital for the venture will be £SOOO, but capital to a total of £35,000 has been assured for the company, which will go to registration in due course. The new company is being organised on economical lines, and the flotation expenses are expected not to exceed £IOO.

The Wairoa Star of April Bth reports: “The death occurred at Napier on Saturday last of Airs W. M,

Lynch, relict of the late James Lynch, of Westport. Deceased who was the mother of Mr Bob Lynch, of Westport, and the late Frank and Arthur Lynch, who at one time both practised as solicitors here, was 78 years of age and was well known to a number of ex-West Coasters resident in Wairoa. Much sympathy will be extended to Mr Lynch in his sail bereavement.” The late Mr and Airs Lynch and family formerly resided in Reefton and then in Westport.
