INFLUENZA
PRECAUTIONS IN PARIS. 'United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright). PARIS, February 13. The spectacle of Frenchmen going about masked, such as in Sydney in 1919, as a precaution against influenza is a likely result from the decision of tlie French Academy o! Medicine, wb"se members are alarmed at the growing proportions o( the epidemic, the deaths increasing from 720 in December to 1362 in January. Professor Merchant urged men should wear “ pieces of fine gauze to mupzle the mouth and nose such as was done successfully in Japan and the wbmen should wear veils.” The Academy officially adopted the suggestion, and the authorities are plastering posters all over Paris urging people ‘‘to protect the nose and mouth with several thicknesses of gauze.”
