COAST COMPETITION AT REEETON.

SHIELD WON BY OTIIIA

Reeftou was en fete on Saturday on the occasion oi' the West Coast Fire Brigades annual demonstration, which proved a great success. The first event commenced at 9.30 a.m. while the last one was linished at 0.30. There was perfect weather and a large attendance.

Otira Brigade’s team won the Russell Shield and the Bcnyon Cup, whilst Denniston team won the Rose Cup, and Westport won the .Morlev Cup. T lie following wore the results: — One Man. The following were (lie points lor the Itussell Shield: Otira 47*, Cohden 41}. Reelton 38. Denniston 30, Creymouth 21}, Westport 18V, Hokitika 12. Denniston Avon two gold medals as well as the Rose Cup. and Otira. besides the Russell Shield and Benyoii Cup, won Cl 10s cash. Cohden won C2 10s cash. Reelton CO 10s cash, Creymouth C2 cash, and Westport th Morlev Cup and a gold medal. The visitors were entertained in the evening, when the prizes wen 1 presentl,y Superintendent Coxall (Reelton) the new President.

The animal meeting of the West Coast Fire Brigades Association was held at the Reelton Fire Brigade Station ’on Friday evening, when the Billowing were present:—President, ( intis (Westport); Vice-Presidents, Capt. Donations from Mrs Menderson (Denniston) of a wold medal lor the Browning Memorial; Mr Brooks medal each lor the two men coupling, were received, and a hearty vote ol thanks was passed to the donors lot their handsome donations. It was resolved to adopt the l nited I'ire Brigades Association points lor all competitions. The question of the class of hoots to he worn at West Coast competitions was discussed tit. ffreat length. It was decided to leave it to a committee, consisting ol President Curtis, Foreman McKendry and Secretary Walton, and that in all future contests the blneher hoots must he worn. It was also decided that in all future demonstrations the programme he issued three months before the fixed date. The fixing of the place lor the next meeting was left with the Executive. Notice of motion was given by Denniston that the date of future meetings he altered from November to Easter. It was resolved that the Secret arv forward a copy of the revised rules' to each brigade. The following were the officers elected President Kupt. Coxal 1 (Reefton); Vice-Presi-dents- Foreman Williams (Hokitika). Capt Gilmour (Cobden). Lieut. M.cEnanev (Ku.nara); Treasurer, Sub-Supt. Deere ; Trustee, Foreman White; Serretarv, .Mr J. T. Walton. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the retiring oflieers. ■
