Captain Raid of the s.s. Gael reports having left Auckland on Saturday 17th. November at 6.30 a.m. for Hokitika, proceeding north about. r i iri 1 iri light was abeam at 9.50 a.m., light breeze, smooth and fine. At I.lo'p.m. was otr Rodney Point, off Sail Rock at 3.53 p.m. and at midnight off Cape Brett. Signalled to be reported, speed 6.5 knots. On. Sunday at 10 a.m. lost rotator of patent log. Arrived at New Plymouth wharf at 3 p.m. and took in oal. Distance from Auckland to New Plymouth 506 miles, 3 days 81 bouts from wharf to wharf; average speed 5.3 knots. Left New Plymouth at 5.30 i.m. Sea smooth, light breeze. On Wednesday, clear weather and fresh ,j.w. wind. At 6 p.m. wind shifted 1:o w.s.w. in a heavy rain squall, ship rolling heavily and shipping water; wind continued with rain squalls until midnight. On Thursday morning at 4 o’clock the weather was moderating, but frequent light rain squalls. Passed Cape Foul wind at 4.1 n a.m. P resh southerly wind with heavy westerly sea. Arrived in Hokitika roadstead at 3.40 p.ni. and waited for high water, crossing the liar and arriving at the wharf at 5.30 p.m. Distance from New Plymouth to Hokitika 268 miles; steaming time 47 hours.

TO BRUCE BAT

The Gael left Hokitika for Bruce Bay at 7.30 p.m. on .Saturday. On arrival landed cargo. but the sea getting too rough was unable to unload the last two tons and returned under easy steam to Hokitika, arriving in the roadstead this morning at 2 o’clock and coming to the wharf at 8 o’clock.
