MAORIS EXHIBITION 0N A SUNDAY.

DUNEDIN. November 21. On Sunday last a party of Mann: gave an exhibition of poi dances ami Imkiis at Quarantine Island for the purpose of entertaining members, of the Byrd expedition in charge of the dog teams, and also the general public. The matter was introduced at the Otago and South Methodist Synod today when a resolution was carried expressing strong disapproval of the entertainment, and concluding: “ This Synod considers that it is unworthy ol pakehas to thus commercialise the Maoris on the Lord’s Day. It calls the attention of the Government Department controlling the island to this grave desecration of Sunday and requests that permission should not be again granted.” 'File mover said that such a thing was not even permitted at Rotorua. )i it were allowed to go on without protest the time would come when Maoris would he brought into the city for the entertainment of people on the beaches. “Wo should make our protest as strong and vehement as we can,” said the chairman (the Rev. 11. E. Bellhouse).
