HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

’ r 1 FRIDAY,. OCTOBER- 26th

The Council met at 7.30 p.in. Present:—Messrs G. A. Perry (Mayor), J. King, T. W. Duff, D. J. Evans, W. Jeffries, Ev Wv Henean, At C. Armstrong and Dr Teiclielmann. Apologies for absence, were made for Messrs Heinz and Elcock.

The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved.

MOTION OF SYMPATHY

The, Mayor referred to the recent death jof the ex;-Town Clerk (Mr A. A. Andrewes) who had faithfully served the Cquncil for many years. He, moved that the Council place on record its deep appreciation of his past valued services, and that the sympathy of the Council be conveyed to the members of the (family, expressing regret and the deep, sense of the loss they had sustained. M,r Andrejves had proved a very able and efficient officer of the Council.

M.r> Jeffries seconded the motion, joining in the expression of* appreciation ,of his services for twenty years as Town Clerk. The motion was carried in . silence, members standing. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE.

M;ORKS. COMMITTEE, I have the,,honour to report that t|u Public Works Committe met at 10 a.m. on the 25th instant and considered. Ah . following works referred to it. 1. —Re application from Mr 'Goo/b. for protection,from storm water: It is recommended that one chain, of curbing and water channelling be laid in H ; aP Street and one chain in Stafford Street along the,., frontage of bis property; also that 20 loads of .grayel .be laid, on the footpath in Stafford Street. Tju estimated cost is : Gravel £3 10s; curb : ng £9 ; labour £10: total, £22 10s. 2. —Application for access to property by N. O. Fairlie and C. L. P; Renton,: It is recommended that road,,access be granted and that the street be cleared and. gravelled., for a distance of, 50 yards. The. estimated cost is: 150, loads of gravel, £l7 10s ; labour £10.; total £27 10s.

3. —Application - from J. Carter for attention to footpath . and removal of gorse on frontage of bis property: It,is recommended, that this work be done alp a ,cost of £6.

4. —Application from , Rowling C,l’ib for gravelling of a parking place in front oif boiling green: The Works .Committee , apthorjsed this work to,,'' p ,done! and it is. at. present being.completed. The. cost of the work is £O2. 5. —The application of the Fire Brigade for wafer plug, in the centre, of Gass Square will, be reported) on at next meeting as the foreipan is collecting information, as to the necessary requirements, fi. Lien Hc.tel and.Tpn.cred Street.: It is recommended .that the water chpnuel. ’'A cleared out but the curbing .to he .hold, over until snipe of, the mpre, necessary \yprks are completed,. 7 .—The Committee .inspected,Rnll.estou Street drain in the vicinity Wf.Par’-.
