THEFT OF JEWELLERY. (Received this day at 10 a.m.) COLOMBO, Sept. 28. The theft of jewellery worth over ten thousand sterling from a registered package is reported by* the Belgian commercial traveller, Wilberts. The pjackaige was insured and contained fifty-two pieces of jewellery, each weighing about 25 carats. It was despatched from Singapore to Colombo hv registered post. On arrival at Colombo Wilberts claimed the package from the Customs, and on*it being opened it was proved to he empty. The jewels were enclosed in a tin box and sealed. The seal had been lifted, a hole drilled under and the jewels removed. The seal was replaced intact.
