What will be the population of Wellington in twenty years time? This question projected itself when the proposal to build a new grandstand at Athletic Park was being considered. Il is an interesting matter upon which to speculate, In 1923 Wellington City, Dower Hutt, Petone and Eastbourne contained a total population of 108,515. Now the population totals 126,005, and with Johnsonville -included 127,265, an increase of 3315 over last year. There was nothing to accentuate the movement into ‘Wellington during last year, so probably this increase represents the normal increase, in population which can he looked for. As the population of central towns tends to increase with greater speed tiho larger they grow, it will not he long before the population increases in the area here under review will amount to 4000 annually.
