CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 28

The South Island Motor Union carried the following resolution: That owing to the necessity for the Highways Board having a closer knowledge of local district conditions, and a better understanding of local district problems, than is possible at present, the time is ripe for the establishment of separate Boards for the North and South Islands. ft wjis generally agreed by the dele gates that if the South Island could pot get a Board of its own, at least the South Island motorists should got an extra representative on the present Board. jt was decided to prepare a questionnaire for Parliamentary 'candidates on the subject. Am-cll and W. L. Minsmi, were reelected. THE I’KTROU TAX. CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 28. Referring to the Main Highways Board and the petrol tax, the President of the South Island Motor Union, Mr A. E. Ansell, said that they had a big fight over the petrol tax, hut the Prime Minister had promised that the tax would be allocated in proportion to the number of vehicles in each Island. Mr H. M. Ansell had had more than, a hint that a certain Department was prepared to overrate tlie Prime Minister; and that must be guarded against, as it would affect all the motorists of the South Island and the public generally.
