PARIS AS A SEAPORT.

' Although Paris cannot rival liondon as a great port, its importance is shown by the fact that even before the war its annual water-borne traffic amounted to more than 15,C00,000 tons.

In recent years the ways of access to the port of Paris proper and to the subsidiary harbours around the capital have been largely improved and, in October next, when the hew port of Pantin, just outside Paris, will bo inaugurated, the French capital will rank as one or the most important harbours in the world and “Paris as a seaport” will have become a reality.

DECREE FOR ENGLISH ACTOR ■NEW YORK, May 21.

Mr Lionel Atwill, the English actor, lias obtained a divorce from ins wife, whose stage name was Mis} Elsie Mackay. Mr Atwill stated that while he was playing on tour his wife left their home in Brooklyn and went to live in the apartment occupied by Ins former friend, Mr Max Montesolc. who was named as co-respondent.

Miss Mackay filed nil answer denying the charges, lmt made no defence at tlie trial. She is the daughter of the late Air Samuel Mackay, a wealthy Australian j station owner.

Air Atwill played the part of the Labour leader throughout, the long run of “Milestones” at the Royally Theatre, London.
