DUNEDIN, July 13

Mr H. L. Tapley at present in England will again stand for Dunedin North as the Reform candidate. Mr J. TV. Munro will probably again be the Labour candidate.

RESIDENCE BURNT

OTAKI, July 13

A firo this morning destroyed the five roomed residence owned by J. P. Brandon and occupied by H. Wichcll. Practically all the contents were destroyed, including trophies and valuable books, etc. The insurances are unavailable.

BODY FOUND

PUKEKOHE, July 13

While engaged mustering cattle at Arere Point near Clevedon, a young settler. Alex Jsliby, discovered the body of a man hanging from a tree. The police believe that it is James Reid Turnbull, aged fifty-nine. n ploughman employed at Rowlands Station, who disappeared on June 6th, 1927. Search parties scoured the country then, but failed to find Turnhull. The clothes and the body were in an advanced state of decomposition.

OBSTRUCTING THE POLICE. PAHIATUA, July 13

For the recent disturbance at Pongaroa Magistrate Free delivered reserved judgment. M. F. Dillon for resitsing the police was fined £3, Harry Dillon, assaulting Constable Mclntosh, £2, TV. A. Reid and F. Wright, each £1 for obstructing tho police. Defendants will also pay costs in each instance.

The charge against M. F. Dillon of being intoxicated while in charge of a motor car was dismissed, but the Magistrate said the police had reasonable ground for this action, as it was admitted defendant had had some drink in the afternoon.

GAOL FOR GRAVEYARD Til EFT WELLINGTON, July 13.

“ When a man commits a theft such as this, there is only one way to deal with him. One mouth’s imprisonment with hard labour.” said Mr Mosley, S.M., in sentencing Stanley Robert Webber iu the Magistrate’s Court today.

‘•This is a case of theft from a graveside at Bromley Cemetery,” stated Sub-Inspector Fitzpatrick. Webber was charged that on July sth ho stole a lady’s handbag and contents, of a total value of £2, the property of Ruth Shanahan.

The Magistrate said that accused had already had a fairly long term of probation and it did not seem to have done him much good.

FISHING BOAT SAFE. AUCKLAND, July 13,

Tho fishing boat Tnlto, reported missing from Whatigaroa, arrived here at midnight with her crew of two, Hansen and Smith, having had a rough trip down the coast and taken shelter at Whnngaroa for several days.

TIMARU’S JUBILEE. TIMARU, July 13

The sixtieth anniversary of the constiution of tfic Borough ol Timaru is stitution of the Borough of Timaru is being'appropriately celebrated to-day, postponed from 1918 on account of the war then raging. The borough was formed on July 13th, 1868. During the interval there have been twentyone Mayors and three town clerks. The Government was represented by Hon. F. J. Rolleston (Attorney-General). The celebrations took the form of a monster procession, tree planting, a luncheon to pioneers, children’s sports and other festivities, to conclude with a grand hall to-night. Tho town is gaily bedecked with flags and other decorations and throughout the gioatest enthusiasm prevails.
