'GIRL CELEBRATES BIRTHDAY

Among Sydney’s comparatively few women benefactors is Miss Jean Norton, the fashionable daughter of the late joint Norton, of newspaper fame, who is celebrating her 21st birthday by giving more than £II,OOO to various institutions, including Sydney University, and charities. As a benefactor she shares a distinction enjoyed by among few others, Dante Endith WalkcP, one of ‘Australia’s most public-spirited women, whose wealth has been judiciously spent in countless useful directions. In every direction in and around Sydney one sees monuments to her philanthropy in Hie form oi homes tor soldiers, ctm aiesrents, and others needing a helping band. She lias followed worthily in the footsteps of her father, the late Thomas Walker, the most notable of whoso many benefactions’ was tlie erection of what is known as the Thomas Walkin' Hospital for Convales-cents.-'for which, apart from a generous endowment, lie provided £IOO,OOO.
