It lias long lioon farmers representatives that the industry is affected hv every increase in wages granted to unionists. These increases, it is argued, are reflected in the increased cost of materials required by the farmer, who is unable to pass on the extra cost of running his farm. The Arbitration Court lias recognised this in several instances where farm workers have demanded increased wages. This argument lias been contested bv labour leaders, who urged that a farm worker should not he put in n worse position than that occupied by his fellows in other classes of occupation. In view of the Labour Party’s recently found interest in the farmer and all that concerns him. it will he interesting to watch its attitude towards this amendment of the Industrial Concilation and Arbitration Act.—“ Northern Advocate.’’
