Invar steel, invariable to temperature, has been used for years in scientific instruments of precision. After long effort Chrysler engineers successfully applied an alloy of the Invar type to their pistons. v The Invar Strut piston, developed by Chrysler, is the only type of piston which combines the advantages of aluminium light weight and high heat conductivity with the valuable property of cast iron low expansion under heat. Chrysler Invar Strut pistons can be fitted to half the usual clearance, reducing waste of power, minimising the danger of crankcase dilution, economising oil, and with less wear on piston skirt and longer life to the rings.
