INTERESTING RELIC FOUND.
WANGANUI, Aug. IS. Yesterday, while the gardener of t ho Moutoa Gardens was removing weeds, he came upon a hard substance, which he took to he stones, near the surface. Ho unearthed an interesting relic, of the early day surveys in the form oT a concrete base with blocks at either end and a chain long, for checking the old Gunter survey chains. This has been buried it great many years, and is no doubt associated with the early surveys of Wanganui. Tb was adjacent to this spot that Major Nixon and the early Magistrates lived and also where distribution of goods to Maoris by Wakefield took place.
