1 hog t.-v report the following work was carried out during the month:— Tiir sealing was done on Hamilton St footpath, between Revel I and Sewell Sts. Revell St. was done from the Dunedin Hotel down to the Town Hall. The drain carrying the refuse from the -Abattoir was cleared where it discharges on the beach, and timbered to prevent the sand from blocking it. A block was cleared in the drain at the corner of Healey and Hampden Sts, and several gratings were put on down pipes. The "titer occupied a lot of time during the month, many leaks were repaired. A blow out at Tucker Flat at night and a blow out tit tho corner of Hall and Hampden. Sts on Sunday Kith, which were repaired. Two chains of pipes were lowered at Stribbliugs creek on the lake road, owing to the road being graded, left the water pipes above ground, we trenched and lowered them about two foci under the surface.

The water ranged from 4ft Gin to Bft in the reservoir for the month. —Received. WATER SUPPLY. A discussion took place in connection with tile water supply. Mr Orr (Chairman i f flit' Works Committee) stated that the past month had been one of the most unsatisfactory in connection with the life of the water pipes. The staff during 19 days of the present month had hern engaged for 168 hours in repairing leakages. It was a very serious matter and deserved the immediate attention of the Council. After considerable discussion it was resolved that enquiries he made as to the best sort of iron pipes for water supply purposes and that the Council then take into urgent consideration the host means to he taken of .safeguarding the water supply. The Mayor agreed that the wire binding of the wooden pipes was giving way and causing most of the trouble, and pointed out that though the life of the pipes as put down had 12 years to run, the cost of repairing was going to he in- i erensingly large as the months go by | and it would he well to face at once < the question of an entire renewal of ( the pipe line. The action of the Chairman of the Public Works Committee in arranging

ir the cleaning up of Cass Square and lie tar sealing of the track was aproved. Tt was stated that the pro-

gress of the work was being held up owing to 11 1 e calls for repairs to the water supply line in various places all over the town. The Council rose at 8.40 p.m. TOBACCOXI STS’ CLOSING HOURS.
