Australian Workers Union Congress endorsed the action of its executive • council in selecting delegates for flic industrial mission to America and decided to ignore the efforts of tho Labour Council to prevent the departure of the delegation. LIQUOR LAW BILL'. ALLEGATION OF BRIBERY. SYDNEY, Jan. 29. In tho Assembly, Air McKell secured leave to introduce an amending of the Licensing Bill providing for legalising tho salo of liquor up to nine o’clock at night with meals. During the dedebato Air Lane (Nationalist member for Balmain) said tho liquor trade in 1916 had been able to manipulate every Government that had been in power. Ho understood that £9OOO wa s offered to the Labour movement if the Government would open hotels until eight o’clock at night. Tho Bill which also provides for the discontinuance of payments h.v a licensee to the compensation fund in respect of hotels, which were delicensed by tho licenses Reduction Board was read a. first time. Air Lane in the course of his allegations, said tho liquor trado was the most lawless industry in the State. Flagrant breaches of the law were committed by it and by some means or other it was able to manipulate ministries of the Senate. The liquor trade Imd put funds into the Labour movemen before list elections for tho propose of obtaining concessions in liquor legislation during the present Parliament. ATessrs AfcKell and Bavin hotly repudiated the allegations of corruption. X.S.W. FLOODS. • SYDNEY. Jan. 29. Torrential rains flooded Clarence, Richmond and Tweed rivers causing extensive damage. QUEER X.S.W. INCIDENT. GOULBI T RN, January 30. Some weeks ago William AfcPhcrscm left his home in AVindsor in scareih of work. Recently a decomposed body was found in the Yarra. and Mrs -McPherson identified the clothes as those of her husband. The funeral took place „ n Saturday. The family had just returned from the cemetery, when McPherson walked into the kitchen and asked excitedly who identified his body. Airs McPherson collapsed.
