HUGE ESTATE CLAIMED CHRLSTCHURCU. Jan. 28. A Christchurch, family claims to be interested in valuable estates in Lancashire, England, estimated to bo worth twenty millions sterling. The following nro the parties interested: John 7 abler. Civil Servant, of Limvood; Henry Table.v, Civil Servant, of Limvood; .James Tablet-, Farmer, of Lin wood ; and Airs M. Sluiw, of Linwood .

An inquest on the death of Robert Fraser, who was drowned on the AYnimakariri river liar yesterday morning, was conducted by ATr Afosley, S.M.. today. Fraser wins a member of a fishing party, which got into difficulties, when wading across the bar. being caught in deeper water than they anticipated. owing to the rising of the tide. Two other members of the party. John Rickard, and Harold Jefcoate, went to the assistance of Fraser, who was a poor swimmer, hut they had to leave him on becoming exhausted themselves. ■

Fraser, in his drowhiing frenzy, grabbed both the swimmers so that they had difficulty in disengaging themselves and they reached shore with difficulty. A verdict was returned that Fraser v. a s drowned whilst engaged in fishtrawling operations. The Afagistratc commended Jefcoate and Rickard on their plucky action in attempting to rescue their comrade.

At Eureka to-day, June Felicity Seaville. nine and a half years of age. daughter of Ronald Seaville, firmer of AY ningaro was thrown from a milk waggon and killed. The accident occurred on the farm where the girl was spending her holidays. She was riding in the waggon when the vehicle struck a hump. The girl fell to the front taking the reins with her. THEFT FROM BANK. INVERCARGILL, Jan. 28. At the Magistrate’s Court, before Mr G. Cruickshank, S.M., .Tosiali Lines, aged G 4, was charged with, on January 14, stealing £SO in silver, the property of the National Bank. Accused’s wife was employed as charwoman, and Lines was relieving temporarily. On tho date in question accused informed a bank officer that the door had been left open. Investigations showed that A bag ■tcfritriiriing £SO- vfliich wad not put in the safe, was missing. Accused during tho next two days spent £0 on drink from breweries, and was arrested. The bag was subsequently found on the back premises with £l3 still untouched. Accused was convicted. sentence, lieing deferred. THEFT OF POCKET BOOK. INVERCARGILL. Jon. 28. Cecil Johnson, a young man, was convicted of the theft of a pocket book containing £9 cash and a cheque for .£24 4s, tihe property of Roderick Brissett. Sentence was deferred.
