HUGE RUGBY STATION. [Australia A X.Z. Cable Association.] LONDON, Dec. 12. Amazing success lias attended the ollicial tests of the lingo wireless station al Rugby. Operating on a wave length of eighteen thousand’ two hundred metres, the first trial was made in broad daylight on Thursday, with most gratifying results. America advised that the Rugby signals came through extremely well, it being easily ten tunes stronger than the signals from Leafield. which up to now has been Britain’s best station. A report, from South Africa said that ltugby was easily flic most distinct station in Europe. Since Thursday, the test signals ranged over the whole twenty-tour hours, and the officials were delighted to learn that 10-day’s pre dawn signals were picked up with amazing clarity both in Australia and in New Zealand. The success is all the more surprising because only six of the twelve masts, and only luilf of the bewildering array of three miles of aerials have been in use. The remainder of the aerials will presently lie devoted to two way telephony tests with A merit a, by which it is hoped that a London subscriber will soon tie able to call up a number in New Yorlc. Meanwhile, it, is though I hat I here is no limit to Rugby’s possibilities' of swift and accurate wireless trail-mis-sion all over the world. It is revealed that the secret of success is the creation of a master oscillator, produced by the British Post Office Beseafelt Department, by which it wave length keeps its owit path, and overcomes atmospherics, which is important to Australian and Now Zealand traffic. It is considered that this will permit, ships to keep in constant touch with Rugby from any port in Australia or New Zealand, and also continuously cn route. Sir" Robert Donald states that the range, testing stage lias Iteen readied by tkcltugby wireless station, which, early in the" new year, wifi be sending messages wliicli will reach every ship in the seven seas and tlie_ remotest corner of every Dominion. They will also, within a few weeks, be experimenting with America in two-way telephony.
