Wiiat is de-eribed a.- a great Pru-te-tant appeal against tile- l»roposed Royal vi-it to the Pope. was made at a packed meeting ai the Albert Hall, land Gi-boroiigh presiding. A resolution was passed a- billows:
"That this great demonstration by loyal subjects of the Crown regards with serious apprehension and regret the announcement that the King and Queen of England are to visit the Pope, and respectfully and dutifully submits that, as this will be a source of great griel to millions of 1 heir Majesties devoted subjects, the vi-it should he abandoned. This meeting appeals to the Prime Minister to submit to the King the inadvisability of the visit, and it calls upon the Government to immediately withdraw the British Envoy to the Vatican from Rome, seeing that the diplomatic relations with the Pope are an infringement of the constitution, and a grave menace to the welfare of this Protestant Kingdom.”
