OTIRA TUNNEL.
PUBLIC WORKS MINISTER’S REPORT. [BY TELEGRAPH —PER PRESS ASSOCIATION'] CHRISTCHURCH, March 24. As a result of a visit of inspection to the Otira. Tunnel, the Minister of Public Works (Hon J. G. Coates), states that generally, the work is progressing satisfactorily. He does not anticipate any alteration 6f his previous statement, that the line through the tunnel will be in operation about the end of the present year. Regarding the proposed Lake Telia-, po power scheme, Mr Coates staietfc that a,s soon as the power can be deve-. loped at Lake Tekapo and can be’supplied to the consumer at reasonable rates, the license to proceed will be issued.
