APPEAL FOR IMPROVED CONDITIONS. ‘ WELLINGTON, June 20 Captajn 'Barclay, president of the Superannuated Pubilc Servants Association, attended the Public Service Association conference with a delegation. He pointed out that local associations hail been formed. Their desire was to protect .the interests of all public servants. The chief point at the present time was the cost of living. Efforts were being made to obtain improved conditions. At an interview Mr Massey had promised that although the bonus .was cut off in March last, widows, at any rate, would lie provided for, but later a circular was issued stating th*t all individual eases would be considered and decided bv the Treasury. As representing the Federated Associations, be asked for the moral support of all members of the Public Service; also for a financial grant to assist in defraying

necessary expenditure in connexion with the work of organisation. Mr Gilbert stated that most of them were receiving superannuation on small salaries, and bail not received any increase to meet the high cost of living. He asked for the assistance of the Association in bringing the whole question before Parliament, with the object of getting an amendment made to the Act.

Mr Girling Butcher appealed to all members of the Association for their support, pointing out that the public servants of to-dav would be superannuates to-morrow.
