Captain Xeddon has been invited by the Executive of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers Association to form one of the two New Zealand representatives attending the Haig Empire Conference at Capetown rgarding tho settlement of the discharged soldiers within the Empire. The conference is to take place in about six weeks’ time. The death of Mr Mauritz 11. Linstrom took place at lloss early this morn iiiMr and the southern township thereby loses one of its oldest and most respected residents. Mr Linstrom came to the Coast in the early days, and was for years engaged in a butchery business in Hampden Street. He later removed to Ross where ho lias resided tor a long period of years, filling many public positions, including deputy-mayor and councillor for almost a record period, school committeman, member of the Hospital committee and V arden of bis church. Mr Linstrom was a registered mining agent for the past 2.) years. In his younger days when be was a resident of Hokitika, lie was a member of the W estland County Council, Hokitika Borough Council, and Charitable Aid Board. He was also an enthusiastic member of the First Westland Rifles and was a lieutenant on the Reserve, up to the time of bis death. He was a native of Stockholm Sweden, and 85 years of age. He leaves a son (Oscar, in Blenheim) and two daughters, (Airs Martini of Stafford, and Miss Lena Linstrom of Reefton). His wife predeceased him some ten years.
