AMERICANS IVIN AGAIN

AUCKLAND, Jan. (5. The New Zealand Tennis Championship meeting concluded to-day. The American players annexed the singles and doubles. The semi-finals of the men’s singles were played on the Davis Cup courts this morning, resulting as follows: In the final Tilden defeated Washburn, 6 — o, 6 — l) I—'bj 6, 6 d. Washburn extended Tilden fully before be won the match, which went the full five sets. Washburn’s invariable steadiness and ability to take most of what Tilden put over was the principal feature of the game. In the final of the doubles championship, Tilden and Johnston (America) defeated Brookes and Patterson (Australia), 6 —4, (s—l, 6—B, 6—4. The match was marked by brilliant tennis which, however, was not as hard as that seen during the Davis Cup. Brookes and Patterson showed better form in comparison with thir opponents, and gave them a hard fight throughout. THE LADY CHAMPIONS.

The title of Lady Champion of New Zealand was won by Miss Nancy Curtis (Petonei, who early in the tournament showed good form when sue defeated Mrs S. C. Hodges (Rcmuera) last year’s champion. Mrs S. C. Hodges and Miss Marjorie MeFarlane .(Rcmuera) winners of the ladies’ championship doubles last yeai, were again successful. They had a fairly easy win against Mrs J. Marchhanks and Mrs ,). C, Peacock (Wellington) in the final. The Junior Championship was won by Miss A. Howe (Wellington), who bad a walk over in the final, owing to the illness of Miss Marjorie Potter (Auckland). The Boys’ Championship Singles resulted in a win for I. T. Seay (Timaru), who defeated G. N. F. Goldie (Wellington) last year’s champion.

NEW ZEALAND V. N.S.W. AUCKLAND, .fan. 6. The match between the N.S.W. and New Zealand lawn tennis teams was commenced to-day, and will be continued to-morrow. Four single matches and three doubles matches have been played, the visitors winning all except two of the singles. There were some good contests, particularly thrtt between Dr N. Gregg (N.S.W.- and J. G. Aitken (Christchurch) which lasted three hours. Results of play are as follows: — Dr N. Gregg heat .T. G. Aitken, ; 5 j 7 5; S. IT. Henderson lost to Dr P. E.
