AUCKLAND, January 5
Subscriptions to the Government’s soldiers’ settlement loan of £6,000,000 have been fairly satiefa'etory, but it is probable that the full amount will not he raised without, the compulsory clauses of the Finance Act being put into operation (says the “New Zealand Herald”).
Referring to this matter on Sunday the Minister of Finance, Mr W. F. Massey, sfii<3 the loan had done very much better than most people had expected it would. Of course, lie did not think now that the Government would be able to secure the amount required Without compulsion.
