The Davis Cup was formally handed over to the Americans at a dinner n the Town Hall to-night, arranged by

the Australasian Lawn Tennis Association. The Governor-General and the Prime Minister were present. Mr F. J. Ohisun presided and handed over the trophy, lie proposed the toast of “The Americans” land congratulated the,in'. AH the Americans replied, Hardy remarking on the fact that they had had good management, good umpiring, and good (refereeing. Mr Massey proposed the toast of "The Australians”.

In reply, Brookes said their feelings were a mixture of sweetness and bitter-ness-bitterness at parting with the Cup, and sweetness by reason of the fact that it was going to a team that was wortliv in every wav to hold it.
