CONCERT AT KOKATAHI
(Contributed). The Hokitika Harmonic Club performed to a, crowded house at the Longford Hall, Kokatahi, last evening. The concert opened with an overture, brilliantly rendered by the Instrumental (Vur.rtette, nnnieiy Messrs Gibbons, Flowell.yn, Ross and Joyce. Mr and .Miss thend were heard to much advantage in the duet “Till We Meet Again,” and responded to an encore. Miss M. Duncan, delighted the audience with an artistic performance of the Irish Jig. Mr Pat Fitzgerald gave a splendid rendering of the famous “Gipsy Love Song,” his rich baritone voice being heard to much advantage. The violin solo by Mr Flewellyn was a real treat. His technique and tone stamps him as lining a finished artist. Air Wm Berry gave an excellent interpretation of tin famous monologue, “Christmas Bells,” and received a double encore. The solo “When Alv Ship Conies Sailing Home.” was well rendered hv Afiss D. Shand. This young lady has a sueet soprano voice. Her top notes are perfect. Air Wright is certainly a Scotch comedian. His singing of the “Softest of the Family,” was well received and lie responded to an encore. Air Wm Close is also a comedian of great abilities. In the. laughing song the audience wore roused to a great state of enthusiasm. Air Lawn’s accompaniment, added greatly to this item. Air AY. Shand lias a rich tenor voice, and was most- 1 enthusiastically received ill his number, “A Paradise for Two.” (encoied). The “Seauntruihhas” danced by Afiss L. Mclntosh, was certainly a gem. This young lady has a splendid stage appearance, (encored). Air AV. Berry then thanked the audience on behalf of the Harmonic Club for the most enthusiastic way the concert was received. It was delightful to perform to such a warm audience. The concert concluded with the National Anthem sung by the Company.
After the concert, a dance was held, there being 20 sets. Special mention must be made of the beautiful music supplied by the Orchestra under the leadership of Air Lawn, extras being supplied by Air and Miss Kelly. ’ Taking everything into consideration, the concert was a great success which certainly goas to show that Hokitika has talent which would favourably compare with that of the larger centres.
