Jlon, H, L. Michel, M.L.C., returned to Hokitika to-day after an absence of some weeks. Mr Michel was one of the Parliamentary parly which visited Samoa. The Hokitika Harbour Hoard is inviting tenders for the purchase of an oil powered launch, 28ft. long, with 1 h.p. Hercules engine. Tenders close m April 20th. Mr W. Dnvey of the Internal Affairs Department, met the Mayor and representatives of the School Committee at the Town Hall to-day to discuss matters relating to the Boynl Visit as alfccting the children. The Department will subsidise the local committee in connection with the catering tor the children's entertainment. The Department will present each child also with I a flag, and it is understood that the | Education Board will present school children with a commemoration medal. Mr Davey lexpressjed, satisfaction in regard to the proposed local arrangements ffir the entertainment of the children. He further intimated that twelve cars would he required to convey the party from the railway station to the hotel, and the local Committee undertook to arrange this matter with the Automobile Association. Mr Davey approved the proposed suggestions for billeting the children and the minimum age was fixed at 10 years. Younger children will require to be in charge of their parents or guardians ;A number of matters were discussed and a very workable scheme was agreed upon, Mr Davey exnressing thanks for the cordial and ready manner in which bo had been met.
