; FOUND DEAD, j HAMILTON, This Day. I On going to a motor shed, Mrs i Munro found her husband, William Collier Munro, aged 66, lying dead alongside the car. Deceased was a retired farmer and under a doctor’s care for some time. Death apparently occurred through heart failure, following an effort to wind up the ear. IDENTIFIED. HAMILTON, This Day. A body recently found near the lake with the throat cut, lias been identified as Albert Davy, who was recently re- ■ ported missing. Davy was missing for 1 only three weeks, and tiis body was ’ found pinch decomposed, but the doctors say this is quite possible, especij aly as the weather as been very hot. j The identification is by the wearers clothes and boots, the features being quite unrecognisable. NEW HOUSE BURNT. ‘ THAMES, This Day. A fire occurred at Totara Point last night, whereby a new seven room house, owned by Eugene Flynn, and also new , furniture was totally destroyed. Flynn I and his wife were away in Auckland. \ Two daughters had a narrow escape, escaping through a window. Insurances are unavailable. The .house was beyond the water supply area.

OBITUARY. HASTINGS, This Day. Hugh Campbell, a pioneer settler, died this morning at Havelock North. He was born in 1853, in Scotland, and arrived in N.Z. twenty years Inter. He was employed near Tiinaru and later removed to Hawke’s Bay. where lie became a landowner and took m active part in local affairs. He was one of tile founders of, lona college. He leaves a widow, three sons and two daughters. Two other sons were killed in the war.

CHAIR OF HISTORY. DUNEDIN, This Day. The Presbyterian Synod to-day appointed John R. Elder AT Aberdeen, to the Chair of History in the University of Otago. Dr Elder is 39 years of ago, and graduated in 1902 with first class honours in Englsh language, literature and history. He has been asked to come as soon as possible.
