A married man, Louis Aloysius Frost, was charged in the Police Court to-day, with the theft of a total of £675/9/7, tho property of J. T. Julian bud Co., contractors, for which firm lie was secretary. Accused pleaded guilty, and was committed to the Supremo Court for sentence. lie was granted hail, in two sureties of £IoO each.

A XXI VERS ARY CELEBRATIONS.

HAYYERA, July 12

The fiftieth anniversary of tho engagement at Turuturumoka, was celebrated at I law era to-day. Several veterans and old colonists met in the Town Ilall, where addresses were given to the school children, and a luncheon was held in honour of the survivors of

the fight of old colonists. Later a visit was paid to the site of the <?»- gaement, where two of the survivors, Messrs George Tuffin, and J. G. Beamish, planted a tree.

EFFICIENCY CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED.

An efficiency campaign, having for its object the closing of the liquor trade with compensation, was launched last night at a public meeting. The accused are Horo Pitwari. Peter Pitwari, Katie Pitwari, and Pilau Panirau, who were charged before the Chatham Islands Magistrate’s Court on July 3, with assaulting and wounding one Ilia Horamona Robe, so as to cause her deaili, thereby committing a crime of manslaughter.
