CHAMPAGNE ALL DAY.
LAVISH GERMANS
LONDON, May 14. I Describing what he terms the "Ger- : man invasion of Italy," the Rome correspondent of The Times states that a conservative estimate places 150,000 as the number of German tourists who have this year descended on Italy. | It is certain, he states, that the majority of visitors at the smartest hotels have been German. They are spending on the most lavish scale. "Waiters ■ state: Of course the Germans have the j best rooms, the best wines, and the ■ best of everything because they pay ; the best prres." ... ' A prominent British politician, whose humanitarinnism has hitherto inspired him with considerable sympathy for the l ruin of Germany, declared that henceforth he intended to support a strong pro-French policy in, consequence of what he had seen.
Another who has just arrived by sea recounted that a German party aboard began with champagne at 11 a.m. and continued with it till midnight.
