HAWERA v. MANAIA.

The above teams met on King Edward Park on Saturday, and after a hard game Hawena gathered tlio full points by two goals to nil. It was not a good exhibition of foot) > all on account of the strong wind blowing, and the rain made the ball veiy greasy and hard to control. Manilla won the toss, and decided to play with the wind behind them. Brown set the ball going, and Soundy sent out to Campbell, who carried play to Manaia's goal. Edwards cleared well and Budd got a long | pass to Roberts, who was neatly robbed by Pooch. That player got his forwards moving, and a combined movement by Barker and Magnusson forced a corner, which was fruitless. The Manaia baoks were very sound and the Hawera attack could not make any headway. Th-itcher tried a long .shot, which went .wide of the goal. Ren wick had to clear from Mavin and Beare headed out from O'Connor. Forbes, by some good footwork, took the ball down to Barker, who centred across Manaia's goal. Soundy's shot was cleared by Muggeridge. Pooch was working like a trojan, and tried a good long shot which gave Muggeridge no chance, putting Hawera one up. Ttfod to end - play followed, and half-time came soon after with, no further score.

On resuming Manaia set up a hot atfcack. Muggeridge went up in the forward line t&nd Budd went into goal Some good work by Roberts and Butlerfound Pullen in the way, who sent well up fi>td to Soundy, to Brown, who tested Budd, the latter conceding a corner. Barker took the flag kick, and Campbell sent the ball inches wide °- « f goa • Bettridge -sent the ball well down the field and Renwick was kept busy. Geo. Brown saved when a goal for Manaia seemed a certainty by sending over the line. Hawera' s left wing got going, and Edwarda charged down. a shot from Campbell Forbes stopped a Manaia rush and sent to Mannusson, who put across a good centre for Brown to score Hawera's second goal. With ten minutes to go Mhnaaa made the game very willing, and Mavin forced a corner. Renwick stopped one from Thatcher, and Beare Iff c'e^d jn time from Putt. Hawera attacked and Pooch tried .another loner shot, which went wide. The final whistle sounded with the game in midnew, ieavmg Hawera winners of a hard game, under wretched weather conditions by two goals to nil. Mr Geo Reading was the referee.
