MINIATURE RIFLE CLUB.

Tuesday night last saw th© Hawera i '' Miniature ltine Club make a start on this season's shooting. A large number of members and intending members gathered at the club's range, and a specially strong contingent vi luanaia enthusiasts journeyed to Hawera to be present at tiie opening. The president (Mr. E. .Fryer) briefly welcomed the visitors and asked the patron (Dr. Buist) to- declare the ran^e open. In a neat speech, in which reference was made to the very successful previous season. Dr. Buist requested all present to work hard in the interests of the club and* make each season a better one than the last.- After declaring the range open, he apologised for the unfiyoidable absence of Mrs. Buist, and asked the vice-president (Miss Rose- : warne) to fire the first shot. I The night was made good use of by the members and their friends in adjusting rifles and practice, and a match ; was fired against the Manaia visitors, ! which resulted in a win for Hawera by 11 points. ! It is pleasing to note that the long ' promised club at Manaia bids fair to ' come into being in the very near future, I and, considering their splendid showing : against Hawera on Tuesday, the con- | tests between the two dubs should prove exciting. Hawera members look j forward to the very early establishment ! of' the Manaia Club, and wish to thank '' the Manaia friends who so greatly i assisted in making the opening of the . local club so successful, j At the conclusion of the match the ■ ladies of the local club entertained : their Manaia visitors to supper on the j range. / The opening was again celebrated on ; Wednesday night, when a most success!f ul dance was held in the Savoy Tea j Rooms. About seventy couples enjoyed j the dancing and a splendid supper was i provided, whilst the music supplied by , the Premier Orchestra was, as usuai, thoroughly enjoyed. i Members are reminded of the early I formation of teams, and also of the ' necessity for obtaining as much practice as possible before the competitions j start. The range will be open on Tues- ' day, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings of each week.
