WELCOME TO NEW OFFICERS.

In the Salvation Army citadel last evening a large nura&er of people met to welcome Captain ;antl JSx-b Searle to Hawera. Sergeant-Major" Dowdle was in the chair, unfi in ihis opening remarks said that in few: days the officers had been in Hawera they had to deal with two eases and had shown exceptional ability an dealing with them.

Mr. T. JJurrell represented the Methodist people, both ministers being away, and he wished fhem success and support.

Bandmaster Yearbury represented the band, Y.P. Sergesnt-Major Stebbing the Sunday school. Miss Watkins the corps cadets, and Envoy Arnola the remaining portion of the corps. Eacn expressed loyalty to the new officers:

Mrs. Searle ably replied, saying that she had been all her life in'the army, her father and mother being the first converts in Auckland 40. years ago, and they were still going strong. The captain expressed a desire to at all times do his best and help any, in need of help. The following rendered items: T^o quartettes. Misses Mills and Spurdl© and Messrs Hurrell and Mills; solos, Miss Mills and Miss Sourdle; solo, Master Deighton (Auckland); recitation, Miss Leggatt.
