BOWLING.

DOMINION TOUIINAMENT.

FINAL OF IMNK CONTEST,

(.BY TKLRGHAPH —I'KKSS AH8O0IATI0N,) CHHIvSTOHUROH, Jan. 22. As a result of Monday's play only two teams, Uremner's and * Wylio's, were left in the contest, but as liremner hati the advantage of having two lives, he could afford to bo defeated in the tirst game with Wylie. This took the form of a semi-final, and was played in the monunj;. It resulted in a win for Wyiie, who, had he been defated, would have boon eliminated, leaving Bremner as winner of the contest. Bremtier's defeat necessitated an afternoon game, which resulted in kins emerging as skip of the New Zealand champion rink. Th© fourth round of the pairs game, and one of the semi-final games in the I singles contest, were also played in the ' morning. I All the.games wore played on .fcho St. ■ Alban's green, which was in splendid condition, and was playing beautifully. ' A very strong and gusty westerly wind I considerably affected the play right • throughout the day, running bowls often visibly altering their courses as a result. Moth of tiie rink.s teams were playing at the top of their form, and it would be difficult to find a bettqr exhibition of bowling than was afforded during the course ot the two games. I The first gome proved most interesting, the conciudiiiK stages bordering upon the sensational. On the twentyfirst head both teams were even, an extra head giving the Newtoun team victory by one point. The afternooin game opened rather strongly, and at first it appeared that liremner's rink had been affected somewhat adversely by their defeat in the morning. Such a conjecture was proved a fallacy by subsequent events. After being down on the first few heads, Bremner pulled to the front and stayed there, the filial score being 29 to 23 in his favour. Other results were:— 6ingles.^-Semi-nnals: W. Cwrswell (Taieri) 21 v. W. Fielding (Hataitai) 8. • Pairs. —J, Angus and J. A. Itedpath ! (Canterbury) 18' v. W. T. Stnollie and , A. Smellie (Green Island) IG. i At the conclusion of the game,- Mr .T. Brown /president of the Dominion Bowling Association) presented the rinks cnampionship banner to Bremner's team. In a brief speech he congratulated the winners on their stressful play, and stated that the trophy was going back to Auckland, firom whence it had come this season, having been won last year by A. Parson's rink (Ponsonby). Mr Brovvn then called for cheers for both the winners and losers. Bremner and Wylie briefly responded.
